Kamenz, Germany - August 29, 2003

Chris Williams:

Hi all,
well here is my review of the Kamenz concert on Friday night last week. We
(Andrea and myself) arrived in the area of Kamenz on Thursday afternoon
after a 500 kilometre drive, and soon we found her aunts house where we
were staying for 2 nights. After a rest, Andreas aunt prepared a lovely
meal for us, before taking us into Dresden to do some sight seeing, which
was really interesting. My cultural education has certainly been expanded
over the last few years, mainly of course to being a CdeB fan and having so
many lovely friends in Germany. In the evening we met with another friend
and had a lovely time all together.
Next day we set off for the short drive to the venue and the weather was
quite nice, blue skies and sunny, although no where near as hot as it was
in early July. Soon we heard the dulcet tones of Chris as he done his sound
check. Soon after this the support band were performing their sound check
when suddenly the entrance gates were opened !! We made front row easily
:-) as their were not that many people waiting.
First thing I noticed...barriers infront of the stage :-(( but at least it
was something to lean on ;-)
After a long wait it was finally time for the support act to start and was
I well surprised, when the band called 'California Dreaming' I think,
started playing all my favourites from the 70's and 80's. IT WAS GREAT !!!!
I was the first one to start dancing along !! closely followed by Andrea.
I couldn't help myself...I just love that era of music !! Soon a few others
had joined in..well about 4 others I think !!! We had a great time, we
really did.
Still by this time, there was not that many people in the audience. We
heard that only 800 tickets had been sold, but I don't really know.....I
was more interested in what was happening in front of me than behind me ;-)

Only to soon the support act finished and it was time for the 'main man'
!! He came on the stage dressed in guess what.........yep, black jacket,
black trousers and a lovely white shirt. Guilty Secret was the first song.
Soon after that, Chris pretended to not know the name of the place where he
was and pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and pretended again to
have trouble pronouncing Kamenz. I can't remember the set list of course
but it included the most popular songs as always.
It was really funny in Oh My Brave Hearts and again in St Peters Gate, he
really got lost with the words and after St Peters Gate he actually made a
joke about it, saying that some of us may have noticed that he had changed
the words !!!!!!!! and that this was a test to see if we were really
listening !!!!! In Lebanese night he went really wrong, (bless him !! ...
he is human after all !! ) and I think it was in this song that he looked
down at me and was sort of gesticulating to me as to whether it was him or
me that had got the words wrong !!! Thankfully it was him ;-) , or I would
have felt very silly for him to have spotted me singing the wrong words !!
To me, when he goes wrong, it is no great deal, it just makes the show a
bit more entertaining !!!

When I went to hand up my bottle of wine, I could not of course reach the
stage , but when Chris saw me holding it up, he called the security guard
over to collect it for him, along with 2 other gifts from Andrea and Eli
and Jutta. He made reference , but this time privately , by gesticulating
that I had only given him a small bottle again !!!!!!!! Well I have to keep
him guessing don't I !!!!!

The band were of course very good, and in the second half, Al put in his
vampire teeth and messed around on stage. God bless Chris, he was
completely oblivious to it all !!! We were all killing ourselves laughing,
down in the front row.

No new songs that night, and I have to say that the concert was also very
short for a band one :-( We estimate that it was probably less that 2
hours...I know still a good length really, but not as long as we have
gotten to expect from 'our master' !! He usually spoil's us too much !!

The main things Andrea and I noticed was there was no piano..so no
Borderline...very strange for a CdeB concert, and some of the other popular
songs appeared to be missed as well. It did not look as though Chris was in
particular good form until half way through the concert, when he seemed to
perk up alot. Maybe, and it would not surprise me if perhaps he felt a
little ill, at the start. He never made any reference to being ill, he just
did not seem to be with it......just going through the motions ;-) for the
first few songs, and throughout the concert he never talked much or made
jokes but there was plenty of smiles down from the stage, to the mad fans
in the front row, so that was great !!

Only too soon it was time for the second encore and quick as a flash after
that Chris was gone :-( After the show, a group of us including, Andrea,
Dany, Claudia , myself and another couple of others decided to go to a
local bar for a drink and we had a great time together, just 6 girls
together.....no Stewart...I had left him at home !!!! we even phoned him
up to ask how he was and to chat to him ...just so he didn't feel forgotten
;-)

take care all,
Chris(W)
