Chris Williams:

Hi all,

well here is my review of the Newcastle concert last night....and
what a surprise I got in the show ...but more about that later
!!!!!
In the morning Andrea and I drove down from Edinburgh, stopping
along the way to let Andrea see some of our nice coastlines in
England. We finally arrived in Newcastle in the mid afternoon and
found the hotel where we were staying. When we arrived at the venue,
it looked quite an old building from the outside, but was Ok from
the inside. It was a very small venue and the stage was very high.
We were offered by the security people who were at the hall, to
move back some rows as we would not be able to have a good view of
Chris but no one actually took them up on the offer !!! The venue
most definitely was not full up, even though it was, as I say small.
Maybe only 3/4 full at the most. Soon after we took our seats, I
was asked by a young man if I was Chris Williams !! and when I
said I was, Richard Barry introduced himself to me !! Nice to
finally put a name to your face Richard !! Also had a few words
with Jan and Trev from the list.

Chris came on stage at around 19:45 hrs, and the run of songs was
of course very similar to previous nights. Again he chatted alot
about the songs, especially 'Last Night'.
After 'Five Past dreams' I got the biggest shock of my life...and
believe me I really did not know what was about to happen !!!! I
took my gift up as usual , but this time Chris asked me to wait for
a moment , and he walked back over to the microphone, and the next
thing I heard was him telling the audience that my name was Chris
Williams and that 'this was my 100th show' and that as a thanks he
was giving me a bottle of champagne :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I was soooo embarrassed as he said my name that I jus put my head
down and so actually missed everything as he talked. Andrea tells
me that he already had the bottle of Champagne in his hand as he
was talking at the microphone and a couple of other signed things
in his other hand, but as I said I never saw a thing as I was too
embarrassed and looking down to the floor. As Chris said this
little talk, the audience were really clapping and as Chris walked
over to present me with the champagne, he bent down and gave me
a lovely big kiss !! and the audience clapped like mad again.............
I was as red as my blouse as I walked back to my seat....but also
very very touched by his lovely gesture. And it is real Champagne,
and I have never drunk that before !! he has also signed the bottle
for me:-))))))))))))))))))

When the Britney Spears bit came round, no one got up at all, but
Chris still managed to get some kisses from people around the area
and he also invited a girl up to sing a bit of 'Save Me' with him
!!! Again the rest of the concert was the same as previous shows,
and no one got up till Chris asked people to at the end of 'The
Journey'. Even after this invite only the front row got up, which
included about 8-10 people !!!!! very slowly a few more got up, but
the majority remained securely in their seats. I find this very
strange as further down in the south people seem to be more into
'getting up' and dancing. Maybe it is the North/ South divide !!!!
but no worries of course !!!

Chris only sang the one encore of HOE and SONY and that was it. It
is a real shame as I love the extra encore even if it is non CdeB
songs, as these songs are guaranteed to get virtually every single
person up on their feet.

The show was over way to quickly as usual...but was in fact the
usual 2 hrs 20 minutes max. One thing that I noticed was the fact
that Chris's voice is in such good form at the moment and the
sound in the venue was good.

After the show finished Andrea ad I started the 30 minute walk back
to our hotel and as we were having a quick drink in the bar, I saw
a very familiar face walk into the bar and for the UK people you
will know who I mean when I say that it was 'Julian Clary' !!!! he
is in actual fact, very tall, way taller than I imagined. There was
also another British comedian sitting near us but for the life of
me I cant remember his name.

Well that's about it other than to say.....'thanks to the lady who
sat behind me and said ' oh my god' in a very sarcastic tone as I
tried my light stick out ready for the songs that we used them in.
Hence Andrea and I were to scared to use them all evening, incase
it upset this lady again !!

Now today we drove all the way home and afar a quick break it was
time to drive Andrea back to the airport, so she could fly home to
Germany....but only for a week !!! :-))))))))))))))))))

Take care all,

Chris
