Hélène Dufresne: Hi everyone, I know Stephanie already did a review of this concert but I just wanted to add my two cents. It took me hours to write it so please be kind enough to appreciate the effort a non english-spoken person. ;) If you find it too long, please just have a glance at the paragraph starting with ******* This was my third concert in 4 days and I had the chance to meet Stephanie, Andrea, Chris Williams and Stewart for the first time. I knew that Stephanie would be there but I had no clue where she was seated. While I was walking through my place (front row... have I told you before ? :))) i've asked a few woman if they were Stephanie and when I finally got to my place, the girl next to me said "Hi Helene"... it was Stephanie! with Andrea by her side. Stephanie introduced me to Chris Williams and Stewart, we chat a bit but, unfortunatly, my english is not so good and the London accent is quite hard to understand for a french canadian like me ;) The concert began as usual with the music of "When winters comes" and then, Chris De Burgh, dressed with black trousers, white shirt and leather jacket, walked slowly to the front and bowed while the audience greet him with cries of delight. He took his guitar and start to sing "When winters comes" and "The words I love you". He then introduces his song "The same sun" by telling us that from wherever we are, we all share the same stars and the same sun. After the song, Andrea gave him a gift (sorry Andrea, I can't remember what it was), he thanks her and got back to sing "Oh my brave hearts". He took off his jacket in a funny sexy manner (exactly like he did on the Timing is everything tour) and got back to the piano to sing "Lonely Sky" and "Shine on"...WOW, his voice is just more and more powerful and was his great shape. I must mention that he conversed with us almost exclusivly in french (I must say he speaks better french than I speak english) He said that he had written a song named "The lady in..." before most of us where even born and that he tried to imagine the continuation of that story, making jokes about the couple of the song at the time they were newlyweds. The jokes were really funny and he was clearly having fun telling them. He finally end up with the song "Five past dreams" He pointed at his glass of water and said : I know the "St-Laurent" but what are the two other rivers?. He was joking about the city name "Trois-Rivières" which means "three rivers" but what he didn't know is that the St-Laurent is not even one of the three rivers of the name .. ;) At that moment, Chris Williams walked to the front and give him a letter with a tin box of english tea (at least, that's what I think it was) and he greeted Chris W saying that this woman had travelled her way from England to see him in Canada. He also pointed at Andrea saying that she was from Germany and finally looked in my directions and said : and maybe others from Ottawa or Toronto? (because he saw me there) and I answered I was from Montreal. Before singing "Here for you", he told us he wrote that song having his daughter Rosanna in mind and joked about the fact that his daugher is very good looking and tall, miming her shape and his....which is quite different as you can tell.. ;) After that, he sang Nathasha dances at the piano ending it with his heel on the keyboard. He introduced Lebanese nights with a funny story (I won't say anything else, I don't want to steal the punch). Before singing Lonely night in Paris, he compared Paris with Trois-Rivieres saying that they didn't have the Louvres neither the Eiffel tower but we have the sexy french accent ;) In Toronto and Ottawa, he play on words with french phrases but he hadn't this time so I turned to Stephanie and said "hey, he didn't talk of the play of words "CHérie, je t'adore" (which means "darling, I love you") so Stéphanie encouraged me to shout out loud CHERIE JE T'ADORE!! He laught at it and thanks me for reminding him to tell this story. People laugh out loud so I didn't felt guilty of having disturb the show. Again, I don't want to tell about the play of words because the tour is not over and I don't want to steal the punch line. He tributed to Eva Cassidy, a young american singer who died of cancer, by singing Songbird. You can have more information of her at http://evacassidy.org/eva/ He then introduces ST PETERS GATE the same way he did on the TIE tour. Then came the Britney Spears speech with the medley of MY LOVER IS, FIRE ON THE WATER, NIGHT BY THE RIVER, SAVE ME, CRYING LAUGHING, TENDER HANDS, LIVING ON THE ISLAND and I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW. *******This is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the show for me as you will understand in a moment... I must say that in Toronto and Ottawa, while he was walking up and down the aisles, people (mostly women) ran to him to take a pose and have a picture with him. It is really nice of him to take the time for each person for them to have a picture (I had mine in Ottawa but unfortunatly, it is blurred) Because no one did in Trois-Rivières, I decided to run to him and have my picture by Stephanie but THIS TIME, the camera died before taking the picture!!! When I saw Stephanie having a hard time with the camera and then taking it down, I thought it was it and turn to Chris to thank him and at that precise moment.... ROLLDRUMS..... He smiled to me with the most beautiful smile I ever saw and continued to look at me and sing!! I felt like it was an invitation to continue to sing by his side so we sang along "Living on the island".. At the end, he smiled again and went on his way to Stephanie and Andrea, singing with hers while I was taking pictures!!! WHAT A THRILL OF A LIFETIME IT WAS!!! I'm still up in the sky! I'll end this first part with this positive note and go to bed (it's 1:30AM and I want to be in great shape for the Montreal show) Cheers Helene |
