Michaela:
Hi all!
After being rapt away by the CdeB-concert in Mainz I decided to buy a
ticket for a second concert - Bad Nauheim - though being sure that
this time it would not be just as stunning. I already knew what
expected me, knew his jokes, had heard the songs recently, etc… But if it would be only half as nice, maybe it would be worth it.....
When I left home in the early morning there was no way telling how
the weather would be in the evening.
And so I packed a really large basket with all sorts of clothes. When
my husband saw that basket he asked me whether I was going leave him
for Chris. And he got a bit unsettled about his own joke when he
noticed that I had packed even a toothbrush and toothpaste. Yet this
had nothing to do with the concert, I also had to go to the dentist
that day :o(
As I could read in your reviews, you all usually describe how you
spent the day (and what you ate!?!) before the concert. Well, as Bad
Nauheim is not far from the office I spent a usual day at work and
had a usual meal in the canteen. Although I was a bit more restless
than on usual office days. And that was not only because of the
concert, but also because of the dentist ;o)
I went to the dentist during lunch break and when she told me that
everything was fine, nothing could darken my high spirits. All the
same I glanced up at the sky from time to time, throwing an angry
look at the dark clouds. Needless to say it soon started to pour :0( You need to know: I´m very squeamish about rain.
Time seemed to crawl that afternoon until finally, at 4.30 p.m. I
called it a day and made my way to Bad Nauheim. When I was parking my
car I could hear the sound check already being in progress . Though I
set off for the Kurpark straightaway the guys were done right when I
got there :o((((
Something else cheered me up soon: the dark clouds vanished and the
sun started to shine!!!
I browsed the small city a bit and when I returned to the Kurpark the
sky was a bright, sunny blue :o))))
Some time ago I asked Chris at the cdeb.com Guestbook to bring some
sun with him again, like he did in Mainz. As I heard he had done a
lot of rainy concerts on this tour in the meantime. Well than, maybe
it´s not him who brought the sun, but me!! Maybe I should make him
the suggestion to give me free tickets for all of his concerts to get
rid of that rain-problem...*g*
When I took my seat in row 20 I realized that the view was not as bad
as I had suspected. That was, until the largest man in the whole
audience arrived and sat down right in front of me!!!
When the Storyman theme started a few seats in row 16 were still
empty and I moved there.
Chris came onto stage and again he started with a few "Storyman"- lines and then sung "In A Country Churchyard". Some weeks - at the
concert in Mainz – I had been very excited to hear the very song that
was on top of my wish list. You should know that this song had been
my wedding song (played on the organ, "music as she walks slowly to
the altar"). Though I have been to quite a number of concerts and
though he plays it from time to time I had never heard that song live
before. In Mainz I had a front-row seat for the first time and Chris
came onto stage and immediately sung "In A Country Curchyard". – just
as if he had waited all the time for the opportunity to sing it with
me sitting right in front of him… (yeah, right, keep on dreaming
Michaela).
Now, in Bad Nauheim, I enjoyed listening it a bit more relaxed, from
a larger distance - not only from the stage but also and even more
>from the -now fulfilled- wish list.
And as I know some of you are interested in what the most boring
dressed man in music business was wearing: it was his usual leather
jacket, black trousers and -what a surprise!- a shirt with blue
stripes. (Sorry, I can't refrain from the comment on boring clothes.
But actually I love Chris for presenting himself as a usual guy!)
At the last ten concerts I attended Chris always (I guess) greeted
his audience with the line "Es ist sehr schön, wieder in .... zu
sein" (It's great being back to...). But this time he said "Es ist
sehr schön, zum ersten Mal (...for the first time) in Bad Nauheim zu
sein". After all he still knows where he is travelling about.
Later he told us about how Elvis Presley met his future wife for the
first time in Bad Nauheim. He did "Always On My Mind" and before he
started singing he said "Thank you, Andrea, for the idea". I hope
Andrea was at the concert!
When he sang "Grace Of A Dancer" I started to get the impression that
his voice was not going strong :o(
Of course he walked around in the audience when he did "The Lady in
Red" and when he passed me he held his face intentionally right into
my camera. A few steps further he took the hands of a child and waved
with them. He tried to pay attention to as many people as possible
and of course the audience enjoyed it.
Then the band-accompanied part of the show started and while Chris
did a song voice-over we (the people with seats at the outer right
side) could see that he (still singing) carefully passed the bottles
of wine he had been presented with to somebody on the backstage
stairs *g*
Meanwhile the sun had set and I was freezing. Some people were
standing next to the row of seats (it was a very spacious meadow
area) and to "One World" I left my seat and danced together with a
few other people at the edge of that area.
>From there I had a good view at the screen and more than ever before
I was a passenger of the "Spanish Train" - joining that wild
downbound rollercoaster ride. And I was glad that Chris got a lot of
applause for Spanish Train, even in the "noble city" of Bad Nauheim.
(When I was walking through the city streets before the concert I
noticed a lot of elegantly dressed women and asked myself if they
were patients of the health spa or if they had come for the concert –
dressed for the occasion. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found
that most concert-goers I met later were just as casually dressed as
I was.)
My favourite, the Leader-Trilogy, was a bit of a disappointment
because Chris didn't' sing it with as much power as he had done in
Mainz.
I knew that after the Leader-Trilogy it was high time to hurry to the
front and so I secured me a place quite near the stage. I knew at
once that I have been to enough CdeB-Concert during the last years: I
believe I had already seen all the faces there in front! (I guess
most of you are on the mailing-list, but of course I still can't
match the names to the faces).
Suddenly a large man started to push to the front, but the woman
beside me and myself closed ranks. We stood shoulder to shoulder so
he wasn't able to continue further ahead. He told us that his wife
was there right at the front. The woman next to me told him that his
wife would have to move back if they wanted to meet. After
unsuccessfully trying get past us, he beckoned his wife to move back.
She however decided to stay near Chris *gg*.
Just as expected the "dancing part" consisted of the same songs as
before. I like the intro of "Say Goodbye To It All" in that live- sound very much.
Chris' mood became better from song to song. I loooove it when he is
running around on stage and is shining more and more. He has that
truly honest smile that makes me always believe that he, too enjoys
the concert very very much.
And when he finally did "High On Emotion" I was just as high on
emotion as I was in Mainz ;o)
After "The Snows Of New York" he walked along the stage line and
shook hands (he didn't do that in Mainz, maybe because the stage was
too high and he would have to bend down too much). I wondered how
cold his hand would be after running and jumping. And than he climbed
down right in the middle of the stage (with some help from a security
man) only a step away from me. He gave hugs to some fans; I guess the
ones he knows well. And it seems he was just as "High On Emotion" as
we were.
For a moment I was tempted to reach out for him and give him a hug.
But as I'm well behaved I remembered that I cannot give hugs to a
person who doesn't know me and even doesn't notice me. So I just
clapped his shoulder like many others did.
When I left the area I heard a man say: "He's grown old...". You
should have heard his wife telling him off...
Another really worthwhile concert, but nevertheless I was able to
remember my raincoat under my seat afterwards and I was also able to
find my car again - two things which were very hard to accomplish
after the concert in Mainz. And you should know: I've never been in
Bad Nauheim before but about a hundred times in Mainz...*g*.
By the way: After Mainz, having taken so many photos was gnawing at
my conscience, because after every photo I took I put the camera back
into my pocket (needing my hands free for clapping) only to pull it
out again a few minutes later... It must have driven the people next
to me crazy (Sorry!!)
So I decided to leave my camera at home for the next concert. Have a
look and see how good that resolution worked *gg*
