Sharon: Hi Me and Keith went to Friday night's Rock with Laughter and it was absolutely brilliant! One of the best shows we have ever seen, a really good night, worth the money and the journey to Birmingham from Devon The show started with a surprise, as Jasper introduced Niki who had been voted of the previous weeks X-Factor and she was brilliant, she has an amazing voice and I hope that we will hear more of her in the future. The order of the artists was then (I hope that I have remembered this correctly) Jo Brand, The Manfreds, Ray Quinn, Jack Dee, Jamellia then there was a break after which it was the Tap Dogs, Shakin Stevens, Dame Edna and finally the main man Chris who was deffinately worth waiting for. We enjoyed all the artists but the highlights for us, apart from Chris and Jasper were the Manfreds, Jo Brand and Jack Dee. These just stood out. Jasper has to one of the funniest men around and we laughed so much at his comments, that I think the show should have named "ache with laughter!" Chris performed 5 songs, "lady in red" "missing you" "Ferryman" "High on Emoltion" and "Spaceman" I loved it when during Lady in Red he down into the audience and danced with some lucky ladies! I know I am biased because I am a fan of Chris's but I personally think that Chris did the best set and got the best reaction from the audience. It was great at the end when he White Christmas along with Jasper and the other acts. We were quite a long way back and I had been worried that we would be able to see very well, but there were massive video screens either side of the stage, so everyone could see what was going on. This is the third time that Jasper has done "Rock with Laughter" and we would go again, whether or not Chris was perform, as it was a great way of seeing several artists on the same night. Before we headed home on Saturday, we paid a visit to the new Forces Memorial that has recently been opened. For those of you who do not know about it. The Memorial is dedicated to all the Service Personnel, who have been killed since the Second World War (whether in active combat or in accidents) and all their names are on it and there is room for another 16,000 names to added. I found it very moving to see all the names of those who had died and I found a line >from Chris's song "up here in heaven" very appropriate "in the stone, the names of those who have gone". We had gone there to see a particular name, which we found and I was able to pay my respects which was very very pleasing, even if rather sad and as his name (Fred Pilgrim) was a shoulder height I was able to touch the name. If any one gets the chance to visit the Memorial I would recommend it, even if you do not know anyone who has been killed since WW2 as it is a moving place. So what a weekend, the laughter and fun of the show and deep meaning of the Memorial, a weekend that I will not forget for a long time. Hope you enjoyed my review back to lurking Sharon |
