Stefan Gathmann: Hi @ all, Here is my review of the unbelievable, great day in Mainz. Summer is here, at last - but a desert-like summer with 36 degrees Celsius? O.K. then, the main thing is Chris, live, with band AND with Krystina Myles! After a long night at the PC, as it is proper for an IT- specialist, I woke up, affectionately woken by my beloved daughter. We had breakfast, played a littel with Tabea and took a shower. After that I did the last necessary things at the PC and turned on the TV, hoping to see Chris in the "Fernsehgarten" before we had to leave. O.K. our date with Jutta and Ela at the motorway service area was at 12:30. That meant without seeing Chris getting into the hot car and make our way southward. The great reunion at the motorway service area was only clouded a little by Tabea`s sleepiness. But the heck with it - WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO CHRIS and KRYSTINA. Despite air condition we were soaked with sweat when we reached Mainz. We drove to the parking garage and then we made our way to the cafe "Extrablatt" near the cathedral. Now the fear began: Is there still a chance for me to get a ticket? Annette had her ticket already, but that Tabea and me would join her arose at short notice. Now then, I thaught: Someone from the crew will surely know, where I can still snatch one. "If any, then at the box office!" What a bummer! What had I best do? Gee, we are fans and we know so many of the CdeB- team, so there has to be a solution. Someone enabled me to stay and attend the concert. I thank my knight in shining armour for his help. (You know who I am thinking of - I just don`t mention your name, in order that such an audacity like mine won`t be made a rule - I know us Germans!)You made my day a perfect day; thanks! Not only I got a ticket, but also the organizer granted me the permit to stay when all "Normal Ticket holders" had to leave. Everyone shall partake in as much luck, therefore here the most elaborate review I ever wrote. Never again it can become as elaborate, because such a thing is and remains unparalleled. The soundcheck: Kristyna Myles had been on stage a fairly long time in the blazing sun before we (well, you) had to leave. She immediately began with the soundcheck. She performed "Raging Storm" solo - bright voice, clear notes, just as we know her. After a short break the man himself appeared and started with "The long and winding road" played on the piano, shortly displaced by "Spirit" played on the guitar. This ghost was followed by "The same sun" and "The Lady in red". Do I have to say: Perfect as a perfect man can be? Certainly not. All I have to note is: He walked throug the almost blank tiers, bowed before the folks of the "Extrablatt" and went back onto the stage. He disrobed the headset and walked over to Astrid to chat with her for a little while. Next he walked over to the merchandising desk. As we stood next to the merchandising desk, Tabea wanted to say hello to Chris; as if to stay on mummy`s arm! She slipped down the arm and walked over to Chris. But as it is the case with small children, on the way she was distracted and the man himself had just passed. Shortly bemused, newly located and go. Thanks, Kenny, for not holding us up. But one hour before the concert I would not have Chris disturbed, not even by my small mite of a child. Chris would have welcomed her, I know that, if he had heard the whispery voice two meters away saying: "Hello, Chris" and whishing him: "Good luck". We returned to the "Extrablatt". As Admission began there was the soundcheck of a deeply afflicted voice that as someone in the "Extrablatt" informed me belonged to Jule Neigel. The concert: And indeed, as Jule Neigel announced "Stimme mit Flügel" (Voice with piano) this wannabe Club Rep entered the stage. If she had just sung her songs and transported the feeling of the keyboarder Simon that would have rendered such awkward patter like: "Come on! Get up!", "Please sing with me.", Was this a Yes, I heard?" (4 times in a row!)unnecessary. Jule, that performance was not appopriate for someone like you. You are a singer, not a club rep or a motivational coach. Please, keep at your abilities. Fife of her new songs and her last hit was an unnecessary prelude. Sadly her new album hasen`t been released jet, so no guaranty for the song titels: - Jetzt und hier (now and here) - words can fly - Weil ich dich liebe (because I love you) - Niemand auf der Welt ist allein (None in the world is alone) - Alles, was du hast im Leben (all you have in life)>iahiahiahh and Winni the Pooh and Piglet< ;-) - Schatten an der Wand (shadows on the wall) This was a CdeB concert and anyway we fans were so fair and applauded. Some even took part in the animation. But the applause when she left the stage was nothing compared with the applause Chris got when he finally entered the stage at 8 p.m. The star: Intro Storyman The auditory in Mainz wacked out. The Storyman sang the first part of the song and welcomed the people in Mainz: Two years ago GOD sent rain because we were bad. Today we have sunshine, so we must have been good. My guitar is soooo hot. - In a country churchyard - The same sun He rarely talked between the songs. He introduced the next song with the words: We have been at the Rhine today. Mainz am Rhein, that`s right, isn`t it? We saw the Rhine and the boats and it was perfect for dreaming of the wide world. - Sailing away - The sweetest kiss of all - Lebanes Night Next he got a cup with ice cubes. He asked, if someone wanted ice and threw three cubes to the audience. Two more cups were braught and he prepared to throw the first one to the audience, then stopped with the impish grin and shaking the head that is so typical for him. With his back to the audience he put the cup onto the piano when an ice cube came flying back, scarcely missed him, slid over the piano and missed the man in the back even closer. Homorous but incomprehensibly in good fun Chris said: Security, I saw it; first row, seat 3, left! He was up to continue when he saw two children handing him a present. Since the stage was extremely high, Chris lay down plane to allow the contact to the fans. - Perfect Day [for new fans: it includes Let it be and silent night](Why not a CdeB CD with Christmas songs?) - I see you everywhere - Borderline: At the "wisdom - part" I saw two doves flying. There was the usual, even though restrained applause. The applause after the song was all the more stormy. Chris said it was an honour to sing this song in front of the war memorial here in Mainz. Sadly the applause here was restrained too. - The last time I cried: Even a perfect man interchanges lines;-)or later words. - Where peaceful waters flow Intro to the Britney - part: It is assuasive, that he does not want to be like Britney any more, but Paris Hilton isn`t a real alternativ, right? (I think he was disturbed to early to explain this joke, wasn't he?) - Lady in Red took him surround the whole vanue. This time he passed Tabea even twice, she only would have had to stretch out her hand, but she didn`t. (Due to my decent education;-)) - Leningrad: Due to technical problems Al wasn`t able to play his guitar solo. "We have technical problems, sorry, so free beer for erveryone, also for me." - The grace of a dancer Chris got his free beer from Ela and Nicole. Thanks, Nicole, for this generous act. Now the rest of the band joined Chris: - Where we will be going The time had come for Tabea to fall asleep, and she wanted to sleep in her buggy, but as soon as she saw the - One World video she wanted to sit on my sholders and see what was going on. Tired? Not any longer. Time for dancing. The introduction to the next song contained sad knews for all male fans: Krystina Myles had married last Saturday. The tour with Chris is her honeymoon. Congratulations, Krystina and thanks for your dedication on your CD. I am looking foreward to the release of your new album. (By the way: From next week on you can buy Al`s album, as well, at the merchandising desk, at least in Gymnich. Hurray!!! And thanks for the autograph, either. - Raging storm again was a clear and ingenious duet. This lady is a star, who even gives an "irish singing gnome" a break ;-) - Spanish train (with video): Tabea was in her buggy and was downright riding the roller coaster. - Spirit (with video) - The Leader Trilogy (with the frightening video )It has been alarming to see, that once again there were people whose applause was misplaced in my opinion. (Did you notice, Chris interchanged two words? I didn`t, but Annette and Jutta did.) Partytime: - The words I love you brought about Tabea to say: "I love you, too." over and over again. Is there someone who can send to me all the different languages that can be found in the video - with the accordant phrases, please? - Bal Masque - Living in the world - My father`s eyes (with the cool morphing video, where the young eyes dropped by blood and thereby turn into old eyes) - Say Goodbey to it all - Don`t pay the Ferryman (The skeletons were animated in a cool way. - The only part of the videos to be seen in the soundcheck) The encores: - High on emotion - The snows of New York It was a pity that the concert really was over now, but 22:35 h is for an open air with residents, who partly have to go to work at Monday really more than enough. I want to thank (on behave of Tabea as well) Jutta and Claudia, who made themselves available to Tabea to cuddel and dance. Thanks, Thomas for keeping our seats free and paying [the drinks, not the seets ;-)]. And many thaks to all others, because you treated Tabea and me so caring.
