Christiane Eggert:

Hi all,

here is my review of it all - I am sorry it had to be so long amd took a little time before I finally manage to send it.

As I have told you, my concert adventure starts early on, when I try to set all parameters on "go" status. That means finding somebody nice to accompany me, and finding another nice person to take care of my Hapoo dog. After I had arranged for my cousin to accompany me to the show and for my mom to be the Hapoo sitter for the night, I went and bought two tickets on one fine day in - I think it was June.

On another fine day in July I managed to convince Sophia to join me in Rostock and be my guest for a couple of nights. Soon afterwards my best friend Bianka said she was going, too, and so it was decided that she, her mom and her friend would stay over at our house for the night, too. Sophia started filling the house with new life the night before the show, and we immediately got along really well, talked much and laughed just as much.

On the day of the show mom took Hapoo, Sophia and me to the city with her. When we left the car in the city center, Hapoo was quite startled she was to stay in the car. Sophia and I happily made it to the IGA park, which hosts the attraction of a small church made of trees. It will grow thick walls over the years. No rain in sight, a wonderful slope full of blooming roses waiting for Sophias eyes. On the way to the stage we heard that there was some music going on.

What followed was the most amazing hour of top musicians' jamming, checking and playing for fun. Have you ever heard "One World" with a barrel band sound, or the Lady in Red ending in a long Reggae? Krystina Myles performed her parts of "Raging Storm", and I found she sounded much more self-confident than on the CD already. The good thing besides top quality music for me was that I got to hear where each instrument was located on the stage.

Later the park was closed, but very fortunately Sophia and I did not need to leave. Instead we enjoyed lovely sun on our seats until my cousin came with the missing three from the train station. We sat together while the seats were free and had a wonderful picknic before the show.

I must explain that this Rostock show was special both because it took place in my home town, and because it was the first in four years. I didn't know what I'd been missing until it was rolling. When CdeB entered the stage in the outfit described by Claudia, his voice was superb from the first note on. There was no rain, but the typical sea breeze that probably made people shiver - not me. My cousin helped me give flowers and a small photo to Chris, which he gently took from me with a soft, somewhat cold hand. And Sophia managed to present Chris with a few pictures she had carefully selected from her huge collection.

You all know it by now - shows I attend are made special for different reasons than the visual ones. My highlight was "Carry Me", which Chris de Burgh unexpectedly performed. O dear, what a wonderful surprise, followed by another huge favourite of mine - "The Journey". Will anybody doubt I had a perfect night now? My cousin described a few very interesting aspects of the show to me until CdeB started off with his other highlight - the walkabout Lady in Red. I danced two (or three or five?) steps with him - thanks for permitting for that - and got a very light feel of the guitar he was holding. He enjoyed a bit of beer at the other side and danced with somebody else - what a party!

I listened to the sound of his guitar after the previous question on MotL - really, a very powerful, strong sound. And the voice - excellent! On a side note: I found out that the man behind me had brought his wife, not the other way around. All following songs were outstanding, I didn't even mind the playback of the choir in "Spirit" or "Leningrad". My cousin enjoyed the show and all the films as well, plus she took pictures. I also need to mention that CdeB did say a word about people running back and forth between the stage and the first row, and from then on it seemed to be a really great show without any other distraction.

Just as I was beginning to feel slightly cold, the party started - up to the front and dance and sing as much as you can, everybody!, The space in front of the stage was nicely filled. Chris used Bianka's watch to show that it was too late for an encore, but of course, we got it, "High on Emotion" and "Snows of New York" with the guitars' strong performance of the Storyman's chorus - how creative! Another handshake, and all were gone.

What followed was a stop at Jason's stand, where I had the chance to talk a few words with Krystina Myles, who liked the dome of trees, too, and the show, it appears. My cousin had a fish sandwich, and then we set off, jumping and hopping along the wide street out. We definitely needed to burn some more energy after this evening.

As far as the audience goes: At first it seemed people were waiting to see what they would get, but soon both sides, Chris and the audience, seemed to have struck a warm and very friendly connection. You could really feel it: The more the audience woke up, the more Chris de Burgh was able to return the vibes in a positive circle of reflections. So once more all I have left to do is thank all my friends and guests for making my night so perfect, and Chris, his band and the entire crew for their major share of it all.

To close the book I must tell you that the night and day that followed were both filled with fun, sparkling wine, a lot of breakfast and a tour of our city, this time with Hapoo, and a final goodbye at the train station, where our train left first. It is great to have Sophia still here, so we can share impressions of it all. And while this was my first and last CdeB concert, she had the MotL question answered today and Bielefeld coming up. Cheers, Chris:-)
