Andera Lucas:
Hi,
for those of you still not tired of reading reviews, here is mine from Trier...
It was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!
It was the last indoor concert and if I did not like one thing, it was that it was very
warm inside the Trier Arena. From looking around it seemed it was sold-out, or nearly
sold out. Jacqueline and I only arrived maybe 10 or 15 minutes before the concert
started, because traffic was busy and we had to walk from the parking place. Still we
had enough time for a nice chat with Jason.
Shortly after 8 p.m. the band members and finally Chris (wearing a white shirt from what
I could see) came on stage and the atmosphere was sooo good just from the beginning. We
had heard from someone that the audience in Trier would be a bit quiet – but for sure
not on that evening!!! Clapping and singing all the time.
This concert was another one that I had not planned to go to, so my ticket was only in
row 11. Unfortunately right in front of me was a huge guy sitting who completely blocked
my view of Chris. Jacqueline, who had decided to join me even later was sitting in row
13. But: I saw two empty seats on the right side in row 4, so after the break we sat
there and we had a perfect view, as those seats were a bit elevated!!!
The songs during the first part were the same as always: “Last Night” and “Missing You”,
then Chris greeted the audience in German. He had practised how to pronounce Trier. And
as he asked the audience “How are you?” the cheering and clapping was soo loud already,
that he did not have to ask again, as he usually does when he thinks people responded
not good or loud enough.
We heard “Sailing Away”, “Turn, Turn, Turn” and like before many people were singing
along. Then “Braveheart” and two of my favourites “The Long And Winding Road” and
“Without You”. Next to me were two guys sitting in their mid to late 50s, for sure not
people you would expect at a Chris de Burgh concert without wives But they were
clapping all the time and one of them was even singing along loud at “Without You”.
After “Mirror Of The Soul” and “Leather On My Shoes” it was time for the break. Did I
miss a song?
Chris and the band seemed to be in a really good mood, but no surprise, as the audiences
reaction was soo positive. He also chatted a bit in Germany which is always sooo nice.
As mentioned before I met with Jacqueline in the break and we sat down on our new seats.
The session part was like before with “All Along The Watchtower”, “Love Of The Heart
Divine” and “Moonlight And Vodka”. This time nobody said anything about the drink they
got, it might have been water, but of course I don’t know.
Chris’ solo part started with “Borderline” (standing ovations) and then he sang “Always
On My Mind” again!!! Now that was really nice. It would be great to have that one
permanently on the setlist. After “The Last Thing On My Mind” was another surprise.
Chris mentioned he had a request before the show, but that he had planned to sing this
song anyway. It was “The Same Sun”!!!! One of my all time favourites. Do I need to say
that I was delighted???? And the best thing was that he did not drop another song!!!!
The next songs were “A Spaceman Came Travelling” and “Where Peaceful Waters flow”. After
the solo part was finished the applause seemed endless. I wonder how it feels to be on
stage looking down on all those people…
The band came back on stage and Chris started his intro to “Lady In Red” with telling us
that he had noticed that a lot of ladies were wearing a certain colour: GREEN!! I had
the feeling not that many ladies were wearing red clothes. I’ve seen much more in red
at previous concerts. But of course while walking around he found some “ladies in red”.
As he was almost back on stage people started to rush to the front. Jacqueline and I
had decided before to stay where we were, as we had such a good view. And it was great
to have enough space to dance and jump For sure we had enough “sport” on that day
The area in front of the stage and also in the aisles filled up really quick.
“Africa” was great as always and during this tour I even enjoy “Making The Perfect Man”
which is not one of my favourites. Now the songs were of course the same as always.
“The Words I Love You”, “Bal Masqué”, “Ship To Shore”, “Say Goodbye To It All”, “Don’t
Pay The Ferryman” and “High On Emotion”. Many, many people were on their feet and it
was just great to be there. A fantastic night!!!!
As Chris and the band came back on stage for the encore with “The Snows Of New York”
and “Footsteps” he said that he and the band members had given many concerts during
the last two months all over the world and that without a doubt the Trier audience was
the most fantastic one and they couldn’t wait to come back to this city. The applause
went on and on and on. As it was an indoor show they did fly the globe around the
audience during “Footsteps”.
It was such a great show and for sure well worth going to Trier. Completely high on
emotion we drove back to our hotel, singing VERY loud to the “Footsteps”-CD.
Now we’re off to Bonn where the roaming reporter Chris W will take over again
Take care and see you soon,
Andrea
