Concert Review: Sheffield, UK - December 17, 2000
Angela Haigh:
Well, it is already a week since I saw Chris in Sheffield, so my memories are a bit hazy (cos it has been a very tough week), but here is my review, at last!
I wasn't sure whether to go at all, because my mum-in-law had died earlier in the week. However, my husband said I should go...so in the end, I did.
I have a sister/brother-in-law who live in Sheffield, so I had arranged to go to their house for my tea, then they would take me to the Arena, and pick me up. I got to the Arena just before 7.00pm, and after some strange conversations at the Box Office, due to my having mislaid my ticket, I was given a duplicate copy, and made my way to the front.
I had a front row seat, in the centre block. The Arena seemed very empty, considering the time, and in fact, that was how it remained. I saw Chris, Stewart and Sheila, and also Ian Moor very briefly. Miriam was sat in the row behind, but otherwise, no familiar faces.
The concert started about 7.45, and I am sure by now, you know the order of play, so I won't repeat any to that. I had not been feeling 100% before Chris came on stage, and put that down to my recent bereavement.
I cannot honestly say I enjoyed the first half, and did think maybe I shouldn't have gone at all. However, things improved, and by the time it came to dancing, I joined in with the rest. I took a few photos, and will post them when I get them developed.
The Arena was very cold at the beginning, and we could have done with some dancing to warm us up! I am sure the only source of heat was our own body heat, plus from the electrical stuff on stage.
As you now know, I was "brewing" some illness, and that hit in full force over night.
I am now back to myself...thanks to those who asked; some kind of gastric flu, or something. Whatever it was, I was not able to make it to Manchester on Monday, but did think about you all. maybe next year, I will get the chance to see some of you?
