Concert Review: Vechta, Germany - September 2, 2001
Konni Risse:
So let me try to give you an impression of yesterdays concert in Vechta. Where shall I start? Maybe with my trip to Vechta. I started my journey about 12.30 pm, all alone but in a very good mood - knowing a great evening lying before me. The traffic on the highway was not very heavy, so I arrived in Vechta at 3 pm, but had to search for half an hour to find the right place where the event took place. By the way, the signposts somebody put at the lampposts were really helpful.
When I reached the area 'Zitadellengelände' ( between a graveyard and a prison !!!) only two other fans were there ( I think they are not on the list). We could walk right into the place and take a look at the stage and the various snack booths. A little later we met Claudia from the list ( the one with the discothek in Wuppertal - sorry Claudia, I don't know your surname). I was hoping to meet Diana Sanz from the list, too, but somehow we didn't find each other. Sorry Diana, next time we will coordinate it better.
By 5 pm the place was filled with about 30 fans, but then we all had to leave the area and wait at the entrance, where the security now were building up bars and we had to wait behind.
Around 6 pm we could here "our masters voice" as he was doing his soundcheck ( great sound by the way, the WHOLE concert), and as soon as he had finished, we were alloud to go, sorry - RUN, in. I was lucky to be the first to reach the stage ( apart from two women, who were already inside when the bars opend, I guess they had backstage passes). I took my place right infront of Chirs microphone. The stage was about 1,50 meters high, but there were no bars infront of the stage! Although it was nice to be that close to the stage, I do have a little headache today from twisting my head up all the time. Unforunately a half hour before the concert began it started raining. A very light rain but rain is rain - and it stayed with us the whole evening. Sometimes the wind blew the rain onto the stage and Chris himself got a little wet. But the mood was very good, Chris was absolutely brillant and the audience was phantastic!
He stared with "Carry on" and "Here is your paradise". Sorry but I don't remember all the songs. He did a few cover versions, I think it was " Desperado", "Hotel California", "The long and winding road", "Pretty woman", "Always on my mind" and , of course, "Hey Jude".
After 2 1/2 hours the show was over - all too soon as always. I don't know exactly how many people were there to listen to Chris wonderful music, but I think it may have been around 3000. It was a phantastic show and I feel a little bit sorry that it was the only one I was able to see. But one show still is better than none show!
