Concert Review: Dortmund, Germany - September 26, 2002
Tina Märkert:
hi friends, despite the late hour (past 3 in the morning), but can't sleep, too High on Emotion, just returned from Dortmund - it was absolutely great!!! Went there with Astrid and Heike H. (thanks Heike for the super driving, despite blocked motorway which took us several detours on the way back). Met several other list members, to name a few: Silvia, Claudia Schreiber, Heike M., Marietta+Yogi, Chris+Stewart Williams from the UK, Nicole Kriegers (tomorrow we will rock!!! :-) and Maggie (great to finally meet you after all our emails :-)) Must admit, until yesterday I hadn't yet been in real 'concert mood'. Everything seemed so quick to me. The new album just released, hardly enough time to learn the lyrics by heart, planning the 'girls gang weekend' :-) and now already the first concert. Everything happened so soon. But wow, the moment Chris started his concert with band tonight, I was on it again. I realised how much I had missed the concerts with band. It really makes a difference (not only because there's more at the stage to look at *ggg*) I really had enjoyed the past 3 "intimate solo performance" concerts, but now it's time again for the big concerts! The hall seemed pretty sold out. I'd never been to a concert in Dortmund, but had been told that the concerts there are always among the best. And indeed, it was. The audience was really great! Despite my usual lack of details, this time I can provide you with the song order (quite literally *g*) Started with Guilty Secret - Missing You - Living In The World (at one time Chris sung some completely different lyrics, seems he invented a bit ;-) - Ship to Shore - Brave Hearts - The Same Sun - St Peters Gate - Lebanese Night - The Best That Love Be - If Beds Could Talk (That's a definite dance song!!!) - Lady in Red - Revolution At some songs there was a beautiful decoration: hundreds of little lights like stars, looked great. Quiet part when they sat in the middle: Sailor - Another Rainbow - Save Me (pity that Chris didn't play it more powerful - no comparision to when he played it at the press conference weeks ago). Chris solo: let me try to remember... I'm so bad at this especially at this time of night: Borderline - A Spaceman Came Travelling - Spanish Train - Patricia (after the usual "no I won't sing such stuff anymore") And big big surprise: Chris sung Snow Is Falling !!! Wonderful sad ballad on the piano, about soldiers dead in a shallow grave under the snow who call to be found. It gives you shivers and brings tears to your eyes. Chris said it being one of the new songs for the next album for which he already wrote 6-7 songs. And that it'll become a more 'deeper' album, more thinking stuff, for those who don't songs like If Beds Coult Talk ;-))) Room in This Heart Tonight (can't remember if that was already with band again) Then finally the long awaited DANCING PART!!! Bal Masque - Nothing Ever Happens - Timing Is Everything - Ferryman - Say Goodbye To It All - High On Emotion - Snows of New York - Hey Jude Sorry, if there were alterations I didn't mention, I only wrote what's on the track list Al throw into the audience after the concert :-))) Another great thing: he didn't sing any cover songs!!! (Hey Jude not really counting, it's legend at the end of his concerts) The only thing to critisize: the stupid stupid security staff! Never saw such ignorant guys at a concert. They went after every photo flash. Stamped out every sparkling candle vicously. But when one of them had just confiscated another sparkling candle, Chris called him over to hand him the sparkling candle and then he hold it himself while he sung! The audience went clapping mad. And after the concert we were so soon swept out of the hall, we didn't even have time to talk properly to other list friends. oh, and OF COURSE we missed Peter and Neil!!!!! The new guys might get into it by the time, but at present a lot of last tour's fun on stage is yet missing. Can't wait for tomorrow, only 16 hours until Grefrath!!! (and aren't a bit tired now, still too High on Emotion:-)))) Take care all Tina
