Concert Review: Bonn, Germany - July 17, 2003

Sandra Pleyer:

Hi all,

I had the luck to be in Bonn for a business trip this week, on Wednesday and
Thursday. So I asked myself: "Can I travel home after work when I know Chris is
appearing at a concert in the evening?" You can guess what the answer was. As
there haven't been any reviews so far I just want to tell you little bit about
it.

I met up with Tina one hour before the concert, we walked a little bit around,
and met some other listmembers. At the entrance some people sold some spare
tickets, and probably you can guess again what happened. Although we
had planned just to listen from outside, we couldn't resist to buy two very
cheap tickets (at least compared to the regular price). The tickets were very
good, we found our seats in the third row. Now about the concert itself: The
first part before the break was the part without Chris. The played some
classical music and continued with songs from "Evita" and "Phantom of the
Opera". Not too bad.

During the break Tina and I took the chance to move to the first row as there
were to seats (directly in front of Chris) which had not been taken so far. Wow!
Now we had a perfect view. :-))
Finally, after John Miles "Music" Chris entered the stage. He was greeted by the
audience with standing ovations. I was curious which song he would be playing
and how many. Okay, the first one was LIR, not one of my favourites. But with an
orchestra it's something special, so I enjoyed it anyway. Then he did an short
"Elvis Presley imitation", as an introduction for "Always on my mind". I had
heard that during a solo concert before but again with an orchestra it was
different. By the way: Chris mentioned that the had played at the "Museumsmeile"
3 years before (but he meant 5 years before) and that he would love to come back
with his band to Bonn. Then I was very pleased that he sang "Snows of New York".
That the song was the highlight of the evening for me, as it's one of my
favourites. After these songs he disappeared from the stage. But later, at the
end of the concert, he came for an encore, which was "Hey Jude". During the song
he suddenly jumped down from the stage and walked or better ran through the
audience. What I didn't like at the end, was, that he left the stage very quick
after that song and at the very end when all the participants of the concerts
where mentioned and came on stage again, Chris wasn't mentioned again. :-( That
was a little bit strange for me.

All in all it was an entertaining and nice evening. Okay, it was a quite short
appearance and we had hoped he would play a little bit longer. But it was
announced as a "guest appearance" and so we couldn't complain about that fact.
And as I was in Bonn that day anyway I was happy to be able to visit this
concert.

:-) Sandra
