Concert Review: Brussels, Belgium - March 13, 2004
Claudia Schreiber:
Well, I don't have to tell as much as Chris (W) already did, but we also had a
nice time! Yesterday afternoon I started to drive to Belgium, not so far
(about 250 kms) but absolutely awful weather, it was raining real hard... Just
behind the border I met Dany, and for the rest of the journey we drove in one
car. We arrived to our hotel at about half past 9 pm, and went to a beautiful
little italian restaurant...we had quiet a lot of wine and when we had
finished our meal there were two guys coming up, playing guitars and sang -
guess who we had prefered to hear there ;-)) Anyway, it was nice and when they
closed the restaurant we went to an Irish Pub, just next door to our hotel. Of
course we did not get enough sleep, the radio show started at 8 in the morning
and we had to drive about 25 minutes to the other side of Brussels...but we
made it in time. With tiny, sleepy eyes I believe...
Until we were there we were not sure if it was really Chris playing there,
because when I ordered the tickets nobody knew-the only information we had was
Astrid's mail! But we were there on the right day (Timing is everything, eh?)
and suddenly we heard Chris doing his little soundcheck. He played this lovely
Paul Simon song which he often plays during soundchecks...I often wished to
hear it live during a concert...when Chris started the piano part of the
soundcheck, people were let into the room and went to the tables, as it was
nearly 8 o'clock already and the show had to begin. Chris didn't look very
lucky about that-when I remember his face in Ragley Hall years ago, when
people were running to the stage during the soundcheck already...ui, not a
good start in the early morning...But during his "concert" he seemed to be in
a pretty good mood!
As Chris (W) already mentioned, the first 45 minutes passed by without Chris,
then he was playing "Songbird" and left again-we were really scared that this
might have been all! Anyway, we were served a breakfast, and in the second
hour Chris came back again! In the meantime there were 3 young ladies
("Trouble") doing some songs, they were really good!
Then Chris did 2 piano songs, including LIR, and also a few minutes of
interview without any news (for us).
After the show we drove through the town for a while, but it was too much
traffic to enjoy, and so we decided to go back home again.
Well, we had a good time, although it was "only" 3 songs! Of course now we
hope that next week (TV show) it will not be less than that!
Have a good time and nice weekend out there!
