Concert Review: Kiel, Germany - March 5, 2004
Thomas Gamradt:
Hi everybody I'm home from Kiel and taking a break from packing up things for our Denmark holiday. But I think you'd rather hear about Chris performance in Kiel than our holidays :-) We arrived in Kiel at 11:40 together with Chris Eggert who we had picked up at the station in Hamburg. The lady at RSH's door told us that we would be allowed in at 12:45, so we went back to the car for half an hour to keep us a little warmer. When the queue started to build in front of the door, we already had found Gabi and Lawrence, Heike, Sabrina and Mark (Marc?). So we all tried to get in together. Tried? Yes, we had to stop at a list of names. Only, our names weren't on that list and the man at the door hadn't heard anything about a mailing list, Internet winners or someone called Astrid. Luckily, I managed to convince him to let us in anyway. After all, we hadn't been standing in the cold for so long to finally let in everybody else first and let him check with some better informed person. A few minutes past one Chris finally entered the stage and the interview started. There were two interviewers, a man who said before the start that his english wasn't that good and a woman who apparently was there to help him out. It was really funny. He asked the questions, Chris answered, everybody had a laugh at Chris' answers (he made a lot of jokes) and another laugh after we heard the 'translation' :-) Half way through he gave up and asked the audience if he had to translate at all, which was answered by about 150 "no"s. Nothing in the interview itself that was new to us, sorry folks. Finally, the singing started. He sang -The road to freedom -Songbird -The words I love you -Snow is falling -The Journey -Rose of England -Where peaceful waters flow -Five past dreams -Snows of New York I think i mixed up the order a bit, but peaceful waters was really somewhere in the middle. He didn't talk much about the songs, but his voice was great. I've been to a few concerts where he had voice problems in the beginning, but not today. The sound quality was also extraordinary, so we had a really great time. About the new songs themselves, I have to admit that I'll need some more time to get into them. Not much variety, they all have a similar style. I guess they'll grow on me once I've had the chance to listen to them a few more times and pay more attention to the lyrics. After the concert Chris had to leave very fast to catch his plane and get to the recording of the Kerner show tonight in Hamburg, but he had left enough autograms for about 2/3 of the audience. How I hate these lies about having no time. The show is done some time in the evening and nobody can tell me that there's no chance to stay for half an hour longer. If he took the car to Hamburg I'm sure he would have been faster... I also asked when the recording would be broadcasted, but they had no date yet. To be honest, I would be very surprised if they did it at all. It just doesn't fit with the program of RSH. Mostly chart stuff. And I can't remember *ever* having heard an interview of more than three minutes, let alone something like a concert. But maybe I'm wrong and they have changed since I last listened to them... OK, enough for now. Have a nice weekend. I'll go and put my 1/2 litre glass for the cocktails in my suitcase :-) See you in a week, Thomas
