Concert Review: Prien am Chiemsee, Germany - June 12, 2004

Hi all, well here is our review from last nights concert here in Chiemsee island. Right now, I am sitting in the back of the Lucas/Zill travel taxi ...on our way to the next destination, where ever that might be !!!! So last night we arrived to the venue after the torrential rain and thunder, with a towel to place on our seats so we would not get wet 'bottoms' !!!!! The first thing that shocked us was the height of the stage..it was over 2 meters high and a long way in front of the seats. Second thing that shocked me in particular was the fact that when Chris walked on stage, he was wearing a .......drum roll .................... a blue shirt :-), but we could only see the very top of it as he also had a dark colour jumper and black jacket on, as it was very cold. He looked so very small on a massive and very high stage !! He started with the usual song and then suddenly after this he commented on the weather of course, and then sung a song that was non CdeB and we had never heard before...it was some thing about the weather I think. During one song it started to rain again and it must have looked funny to Chris up on the stage, as the whole audience started to pull on their rain capes/jackets and hoods ..........he was the only one dry at one point !! He made several comments about how cold it was, and he was not wrong at all, and at one point, he had to call for his second guitar as the cold had made his main one out of tune. You really could see all the breath coming out of his mouth as he sang the songs.........and we were in row 6 !!!! He talked about how he has been at home in Ireland for the weekend, as his 2 sons were comfirmed in church on Sunday morning, he also kept us up to date with the England re France football match. The main audience did not really seem to know many of the songs, and many round us, could not believe their eyes when our group sung along to all the songs !!! The weather was not going to ruin it for us !! Chris made many changes to the song list. he dropped, Its Me And I'm Ready To Go, Songbird, ( one of my favourites), Rose Of England, and Its A Long Way Home, and replaced these with, Always On My Mind, Sailor, Ship To Shore and ooops, sorry can't remember the last one but we are sure there was another one ! At one point 2 ladies tried to go to the stage to dance but security would not let them, so when The Journey was about to start, we were wondering whether to run to the front or not, but before we could move, Chris said that he was feeling very lonely all on his own, and would we like to go to the stage to dance :-) he had not even finished the sentence before my 'jet propelled' trainers took me flying to the stage ;-) !!!! well not literally to the stage but about 2 meters below it !!!! we ended up dancing in puddles of water,but what the heck we were still enjoying ourselves :-) even if I was still really cold :-( When he sang Read My Name....we are sure that he played and sang it a bit slower than in previous nights. Only too soon it was time for Snows Of New York, but as in the previous 2 concerts he did not finish then, but went on to sing one more song which was Pretty Woman, then Hey Jude and it really was the end of the show :-( We all walked back to the Hotel on the Island where we were staying, for a lovely long drink, but alas it was closed :-(............but this time Dany acted without needing 'adult supervision' ;-) and found one of the staff and asked them if we could still get a drink, and luckily they said yes, and we were allowed to sit in the bar and drink a long Weissbier and have a lovely chat with friends, until it was time to go to bed again !! Gosh after walking about a total of about 10 kilometres yesterday, I was very tired indeed, as I'm not used to such exercise !!! This morning we got up at 07:00 hrs again, drew back the curtains and guess what, the sun was shining in the sky, hardly any clouds and perfect views of the mountains, and it was soo warm that we had our breakfast outside !! After this is was time to repack our cases, and return to the ferry, to take us back to the mainland again, where our journey would carry on. So right now we are driving along an autobahn on our way to Switzerland !! That's about all for now...more to follow after the show tonight .....hopefully !! You must eat food when you drink a Weissbier, especially if you are about to descend down a mountain in a cable car.......coz if you don't you feel very funny in the stomach !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
