Concert Review: Kempten, Germany - July 19, 2007
Ursula Fankhauser:
After Wednesdays concert in Zürich of which I already have written about, I was thinking about travelling to Kempten, which is the closest concert-location from my home. But since I didn't sleep much the last night, I wasn't sure if this would be a good idea because it's still a 3 hours drive and I would have to go straight back home after the concert (well, we all have to work from time to time, haven't we?). Forehanded I started to work earlier than usual in the morning and announced that I won't be there in the afternoon. But I still wasn't sure if I should go to Kempten or not, because I really felt tired out. So instead of lunchtime I had a little nap after which I felt much better again. Refreshed and confident I finally made my way to Germany once more. As soon as I arrived in Kempten I took care about my ticket and was surprised, because I still got a pretty good seat in row 9 right next to the corridor. When waiting to be let in, I finally got to eat something which was the first time since breakfast … it's amazing, during a Chris de Burgh-Tour I often forget about eating and I usually loose about 2 or 3 kilos. Unfortunately due to frustration- meals these are soon back on my hips again when the tour has finished ;-))) Because of some technical problems with the lights we weren't let in until short before 20.00 pm and therefore the concert started with 10 minutes delay. I had a great view to the stage from my seat and it was great to see the whole stage at once. In the first row the stage can't be seen on its whole. So I wondered, whether they extended the video show a bit or if I just missed this bit when sitting in the front row at the other concerts. Also the light-show seemed to be more coordinated, but this was probably also a matter of cover bracket. Chris and the band seemed to be in a great mood and were really enjoying the show. Chris got a lot of presents including flowers, a painting (!) and some wine, which was brought to the stage in a glass what of course caused some laugher. I think he is pretty fast extending his German knowledge. By the way, in Zürich he welcomed the people in almost perfect Swiss German: 'Grüezi mitenand, wie goht's?'. Already in Zürich it seemed to me as if there were some songs missing, but I couldn't really tell which ones. Then yesterday night I suddenly realised: There was no 'Perfect day' and didn't he play 'The Risen Lord' as well in Heilbronn and Abenberg? Still, I can't tell if they were replaced with other songs or if they just were left out ... (another concert needed therefore ;-)) - it's a pitty anyway, especially for 'The Risen Lord' which I really liked. Okay, what else: Chris did his usual 'Lady in Red-Walk', which was very appreciated by the audience and Kristyna got a big applause, when she started to sing, I think she loved that. And she wasn't wearing anything yellow - good decision :-)! She also got some flowers. The concert and the audience was just how it should be, and my world, which was a bit out of order since the concert in Zürich, got into its right place back again. Oh yeah, at the very end, there was this big globe flying above our heads, we know that already from the last autumns concerts. This was probably possible, because the concert was this time not open air. Only too soon the concert was finished and I had to make my long way back home again. 3 hours of driving is really long if you feel tired, so I spent the whole time singing which my voice only hardly survived ... well, you have to make sacrifices, no? Now I will have to wait until the concert in Felden (Chiemsee) ... seems to be such a long way to go … 10 loooooooooong days and nights!!!! Or is there a chance to visit Nörten-Hardenberg? We will see ... By now I wish Chris, the band and the crew a few nice days without concerts, I hope they'll find the time to relax a bit. About Chiemsee: Is there any meeting point in Prien or in Felden planned? I guess there are a few people from the list coming ... Finished! Have a great day (yawn), Ursula
