Concert Review: Biberach, Germany - June 19, 2009

Andrea Lucas:

There was a queue at the entrance, but it didn’t take that long. By that time it was
raining again and we all put on raincoats. My friends even had suitable trousers. Well,
my hiking raincoat is that big, it’s almost like a “one-person-tent” The people in the
audience must have looked quite funny with all different kinds of “rain protection”.
Chris did mention that later in the concert. The local photographers took a lot of
pictures of us sitting there.
There were two blocks of seats in front of the stage with an aisle in the middle. And
our seats were just perfect, on the aisle of the left block, right in front of Chris’
microphone. The best ones I had so far!!! What a pity the weather was soo bad. But in
the end we did not mind that much, as our clothing was appropriate for the rain.
They made the usual announcement about merchandise being available and that people
should not rush towards the front before the artist tells us to do so. And they also
said there wouldn’t be a break if it would still rain. Matter of fact it stopped raining
right after “Leather On My Shoes”, but there wasn’t a break.
For the concert I think Chris wasn’t as chatty as he sometimes is. He might have been
too cold??? He was wearing a white shirt and his leather jacket, but after his “Lady In
Red” walk he disappeared for a couple of seconds and came back with a jumper under the
leather jacket. He took off the jumper for the encore with “The Snows Of New York” and
“Footsteps”. David was much more brave, he only had a t-shirt on for the last few songs.
I was tempted to take off my jacket for the dancing part, but in the end decided to not
do it. It wasn’t that warm…
What else do I remember? At “Missing You” Chris replaced the word “darling” with the
German expression “Liebling” which I really like. Did I mention already that I love it
when he talks German?????? At the end of “Lady In Red” he didn’t say “I love you”, but
“Ich liebe Dich”. He’d done that before, I think in Tuessling and at another concert,
just can’t remember which one it was. And of course he pronounced Biberach correctly
and said how beautiful the town would be. It was quite nice actually, the setting a bit
like in Landshut last year.
Concerning the rain he said it would stop later and that the day before he sat outside
to enjoy a meal. Well, Thursday would indeed have been much better for an outdoor
concert… Of course after it had stopped raining he told us that he had predicted it
would stop, because he is such a good man…
Oh, he started the solo part with “Always On My Mind” on the piano, followed by
“Borderline”. Many people got up after that song and he thanked us for the standing
ovation. He then took the guitar and started telling us about Christmas being not that
far away. I just thought “Stop, that’s the wrong introduction!!!”, as I was expecting
"The Last Thing On My Mind”. One of my VERY favourite songs of the whole concert. Well,
he did not sing it – no idea if he just forgot it or didn’t want to sing it. I think he
might have just forgotten it, which is a real pity!!!!!! But then there’s hope for the
next concert… At first I thought he would sing it later, but after “Spaceman” and
“Peaceful Waters” the solo part was over….
As Chris started his walk around the audience some people mainly from the right side got
up and walked to the stage, so we did that as well. The area filled up quickly and we
did enjoy the dancing part.
Well, right now that’s about all I can remember about the concert. The songs were the
same as usual – with “The Last Thing On My Mind” missing….
After the show I met again with my friend Christine and her cousin Hanna. I haven’t seen
them for a long time and it was lovely to have at least a chat. Oh, Hanna had told me
that the church tower which was right behind the stage was lit in different colours
matching to the songs and lights on the stage. Being right at the front I did not see
that.
Now we are almost off to Weinheim, another three hours journey. Take care and enjoy the
weekend,
Andrea
