Concert Review: Braunschweig, Germany - June 9, 2009
Andrea Lucas:
Hi to everyone, After a relaxed tourist day, we took a tram to the venue in the evening. The concert was good again. My seat was on the very right side in row 3 which was actually row 6 as there were rows A – C in the front. My view was good, just a bit too far away… But going to Braunschweig wasn’t on my original tour plan and for buying the ticket late it wasn’t that bad after all. Before the concert started they again said that people should remain on their seats until the artist would invite them to get up, due to respect other listeners/viewers. I think this is a very good idea as in my opinion it’s much nicer to enjoy the solo part still sitting. Chris came on stage one or two minutes after 8 p.m. and was wearing a light blue shirt and his usual trousers. The audience welcomed him and the band with loud applause. Maybe some of you remember that photographer who always takes pictures at one (or more shows)? Guido …., whatever his last name is, I don’t remember it right now. Anyway, he was there yesterday taking pictures all through the concert. A bit strange, as they never handed out those little flyers advertising his pics. Already during the first part of the show Chris said that we would be allowed to take photos, he would not mind. Of course the songs were the same as before, no surprises here. A lot of people around me sang along during “Turn, Turn, Turn” – as did I… At other songs the singing wasn’t that much – at least where I was sitting. At the beginning of “Leather On My Shoes” Chris again mentioned that he comes from Ireland and wrote this song about 20 years ago as Ireland was going through a period of depression and many young people were leaving the country and it would happen again now. H also said that he actually was in Ireland in the morning. This is a song I love sooo much. At one point Chris said that he saw a poster of the German rock group “Die Toten Hosen” (dead trousers) and that they will be playing in Braunschweig as well. Oh, this was after “Without You”, when he said you need to wear tight trousers to hit all those high notes…. And he said his trousers wouldn’t be tight. Then he mentioned the Toten Hosen and said his trousers wouldn’t be dead at all, there would be a lot of life in them. It was quite funny and he himself laughed about his joke. I think this one came to his mind quite spontaneously. After the break we enjoyed the “session part” where my favourite song is “Love Of The Heart Divine”. During Chris’ solo part some people stood up after he had sung “Borderline” but much more got up after “Peaceful Waters”. The clapping went on for a long time and Chris really seemed to be moved. He also got a lot of applause after “The Last Thing On My Mind” which is one of my personal favourites. After his LIR-walk we were allowed to go to the front and the dancing part started. Getting out of my row was surprisingly easy as the lady sitting next to the guy on my left side (which was the side towards the aisle) got out too. I really enjoyed the dancing part, it was great fun. After the concert Sibylle and I walked to the tram station, but had to find out that the last one had left 10 minutes before, so we had to take a taxi back to the hotel. Now it’s off to breakfast, have a nice day and take care, Andrea
