Concert Review: Freiburg, Germany - May 30, 2009
Chris Williams:
Hi all, Our ticket included a free bus ride to the venue which was nice as we could have a relaxed drive there. Once we arrived I bumped straight into Ursula and her friend for Switzerland, Claudia and a few other fans, so we chatted for a while before entering the venue and taking our seats. Actually before we took our seats Andrea and myself gave Jason a little birthday present as he had told us at the previous venue that it was his birthday that day. He seemed quite pleased that we had actually given him a present The venue again was an arena one so the width of the rows was way wider then the actual stage, and I often feel really sorry for the people stuck right out in those side blocks, as their views cannot be that good. The stage was about an average height again, maybe a little higher than I really like, and there was quite a big gap between the stage and the front row of seats. The seats were all labelled with electronic seat numbers which shone quite blue, I have never seen seat numbers displayed like this before. I think the venue was quite new though, so maybe they are in the modern world by doing this Thank goodness there were not many empty seats as it there had been it would have created a little light show for Chris to watch from the stage Bang on 20:00 hrs the lights went down and we heard the first beats and the flashing lighs of the introduction to the show. Actually I was already a little sad as the show began, as i knew on Sunday I would be saying goodbye to my friends again and returning to the real world of work work work first thing on return to England. Chris was dressed in a white shirt with the black trousers of course The first few songs of course were the same, but as I watched him sing Without You, he seemed to be even better than normal. Maybe it was the venue, maybe it was just me being very emotional that evening, but that particular song for me was outstanding. I have to admit a cried a few tears while he sang that song. In my opinion he does it better than Harry Nillson did....but then of course I guess I am biased. After the break as Chris done the introduction to Moonlight And Vodka, the usual tray was brought on stage and they were all given a drink.....and Chris said that in case we were all wondering.....it really was Vodka in the glasses who knows maybe yes and maybe no....then again who cares as long as he sings like he does The Lady In Red walk around bit went down well of course and then finally Chris invited us up tpo dance from Aftrica onwards. Andrea already rtold me that at the start of the show that we had to wait until we were invited up. I really think this is an excellent idea, as it stops people rushing to the front too early. As we went to the front to dance for some unknown reason I really did become very emotional for several reasons I guess, some one had said something to me just before the start of the show, and nornally it would not have upset me, but as I was already pretty sad, that one remark, just ate away at me.....and I knew that the end of the show was very near and I had to go back to the real world very soon. So really I am not the best to report on the whole show at all really, but there were some lovely people around me who were concerned that I appeared unhappy and were asking me if I were OK . That was really sweet of them I know I get sad at the last concert of a tour sometimes but something just happened last night and I was very very emotional indeed. Thank goodness for my real friends, who comforted me and especially to Andrea who knew exactly how I was feeling and why I was feelling this way. Thanks Andrea you are a great friend As SONY came and went, then it was time for Footsteps and the real end of the show. We said goodbye to friends and made our way back to the bus stop to catch the bus back to near our hotel, where we took a drink in the bar before going to our rooms. Now as I write this I am sitting at Stuttgart airport waiting for my flight back to reality and the real world. So for now, your 'roaming CdeB' reporter is hanging up her coat and netbook and going to take a long break.....maybe a very very long break.....the way I feel right now,you may never read another one of my reviews ever again BUT maybe after I sleep on things, get back to normal life for my own sanity, I may feel differently. This tour has been fun mostly but so very very emotionally wrecking for me and also very tiring indeed. Yes I know you all willl say it is my own fault and it is, as I choose to 'spend my holidays' like this......but it also becomes a way of life , like living the dream for a couple of weeks..until you have to step back into the real world. Hey I can't explain it right here, it's too difficult Take care all, Chris(W)thebluehealer and 'roaming' CdeB reporter
