Concert Review: Leipzig, Germany - June 10, 2009
Astrid Nolde-Gallasch:
As I am currently on my way back home from Leipzig I thought I'd try to post a review from the road. Please bear with me as I am typing this on my mobile... My husband and I have arrived in Leipzig on Tuesday spending the time before the concert with shopping and lots of sightseeing. We were lucky to attend part of the rehearsal for the opening concert of this year's Bach-Festival in the Thomas church. This is the church. where Johann Sebastian Bach worked. The acoustic was simply overwhelming. Orchestra, choir and solo singers filled the church beautifully. Before the actual CdeB concert I enjoyed some relaxed time in the catering area backstage. The Gewandhaus is a very noble concert hall and everywhere backstage you could see rehearsal rooms where orchestra musicians were practicing for their next concert. Due to those many people working there the road crew had only been allowed into the hall very late. Everyone was nervous whether they would have everything ready in time. In fact the concert started 15 minutes late. They also couldn't make an intermission this time as the hall didn't allow it. I met the boys of the band backstage and gave them the new questionnaire. Next week in Bonn I'll get it back. I have put in most of the questions of you all. Very curious about their answers! When I briefly met Chris before the show he gave me such an intense hug it literally blew me away. He said that hugs are the things he misses most while on tour. Chris, if you read this, I'd like to have one of those every time we meet please. The concert itself was great. Same setlist as before. It took a while to warm the audience up. Standing ovations during Borderline. In the end the entire hall was up on their feet. I was lucky to enjoy the dancing part right in front of the stage, next to Alex, Dany, Sibylle and Andrea. Ok my fingers hurt from typing on this phone so I'll stop here. Looking forward to Bonn now!
