Chris de Burgh is torn to Bebenhausen

Popstar is friends with the owners of the Waldhorn restaurant - Exquisite
restaurant soon under new direction

A friend of the house gave a very special concert to the 25 year jubilee
of Jutta and Ulrich Schilling, the owners of the Waldhorn: Chris de Burgh
sang, unnoticed by the public, in the former monastery.

"This is one of the most beautiful places, where I ever was allowed to
sing", Chris de Burgh enthuses in the summer refectory of the Bebenhausen
monastery, "the spirit of 900 years accompanies the music." When the Irish
star even calls the Tbinger suburb Bebenhausen his "second home", it
sounds like the singer is very polite. But it isn't totally exaggerated.

Jutty and Ulrich Schilling lead the top restaurant Waldhorn in Bebenhausen
since 25 years. Their kitchen and hospitality is rewarded with a Michelin
star every year since 1985. The couple likes to tell about lunch time of
May 24, 2000. "Just as we wanted to lock the doors, nine guests came into
the Waldhorn", explains Jutta Schilling. "One just quickly took of his
sunglasses, and I said immediately: You are Chris de Burgh!" He just put
the fingers to his lips, "pssst, not so loud, not everyone has to recognize
me". Of course the kitchen stayed open.

The Irishman made a stop in the bargain town Metzingen between two concerts
in Aalen and Bern. Then the tour bus of the musicians came off the road.
Being hungry they took a look in their Micheline guide. "It was actually a
misfortune that brought us here", de Burgh says. Today he talks of fate. He
wasn't just convinced by the food (Schilling: "They were really having a
feast."), but also by the attentive atmosphere in the restaurant. That can
also be derived from the fact that Chris de Burgh and his band left
Bebenhausen on this day only around midnight. In between Ulrich Schilling
and Chris de Burgh even played a round of golf in Schbuch. Now a
friendship has developped. The Irishman visited the small village in the
middle of the forest already seven times.

During a guidance through the former Zisterzienser monastery last year, de
Burgh promised to Jutta Schilling: "I would love to sing for your jubilee."
The director of the Waldhorn didn't take him seriously, until the management
of the artist asked about suiting dates. And these days it was time, in
front of guests, friends, neighbours and all who work in the Waldhorn, de
Burgh gave a cheered solo concert in the summer refectory. Burgh was so
enthused after 100 minutes on the small stage, that he is going to perform
there in the monastery in 2004 - probably in July - on three evenings.

The Schillings will have a lot of time for the organization of this event.
Because to the concern of many regulars, it gets about that the direction
of the Waldhorn will change. "We were 19, when we took over the Waldhorn 25
years ago", explains Jutta Schilling. Her husband adds: "I have thought for
a long time, that there has to be something else."

When the broader family sat together some time ago in the Waldhorn,
Schilling's sister said that she could well imagine to lease the restaurant.
Because their own children don't want to enter the gastronomy, Ulrich
Schilling spontaneously replied: "Ok, you can have it in 2004." The step
isn't easy for him, "but I stand to what I say." Dorothea Schulz-Schilling
and Helmut Schulz, longtime chef of the exquisite restaurant Ulrichshe in
Nrtingen, will take over the direction on January 1, 2004. This also
includes the box with the index cards which Jutta Schilling managed that
contains all the preferences of the regulars.

The menu will change in details, the principle will stay the same. Ulrich
Schilling summarizes: "Good Swabean cooking on highest level, never paired
up with stiff refinement." Many classics will stay on the menu, "it can't
be without the saddle of venison from Schbuch." What are the plans of
Jutta and Ulrich Schilling? She says: "After a sabbatical, a door will open
somewhere." He says: "A restaurant with maximum four tables, where every
evening there is only one dish, that I put together and cook - ha, that
would be right!"
