Singer with cuddly voice and self irony

Unrestrained flirt with kitsch: Chris de Burgh presents himself as
a "star to touch" in the Nürnberger Meistersingerhalle

When the career is over, he wants to sell icecream in Germany. But
it isn't that far yet, his fans still want to hear him and fill for
example the Nürnberger Meistersingerhalle, when Chris de Burgh
gives a concert.

The Irishman with the cuddly voice and the liking for goosebump
ballads has been celebrating his biggest successes in Germany for
years. He has a regular audience in this country that is true to
him also or especially because not much has changed with Chris
musically lately.

The new album "The Road To Freedom" that Chris de Burgh introduces
in Nürnberg solo without the support of a band could similarly as
well have been released in the eighties or nineties. But the bard
has become a bit more self ironic, his lyrics take the inevitable
aging into account. His marriage life is "five past dreams", the
love has to give way to routine, a bottle of beer warms the bard
almost as well as passion once did.
