Symphony meets ferryman

7500 music fans at the two-day open air with Silbermond and Chris de
Burgh at the Weserufer

Beverungen. A total of 7500 music fans visited the big two-day open
air this weekend at the Weserufer behind the town hall of the
Beverungen cultural society. The absolute highlight was the solo
performance of Irish world star Chris de Burgh (56) on Saturday night.

All on his own he stood on the giant 160 square meter stage, ten
meters high and 15 meters wide, and enchanted 3000 enthused fans for
over two hours.

The cuddle bard didn't need anything but his unmistakable voice.
Sometimes he accompanied himself at the twelve string guitar,
sometimes he sat down at the piano. The Irishman who was born in
Argentina managed to create completely new aspects to his songs.

Since he did without an accompanying band, his songs sounded even more
haunting. The accoustical guitar version of "Don't Pay The Ferryman",
which he presented towards the end of the concert, sounded as if it
was made for the old ferry town Beverungen. The lyrics go: "Don't pay
the ferryman before he gets you to the other side."

The superstar landed shortly before eight on Saturday evening in
Kassel-Calden and was driven to Beverungen with a police escort. "I
haven't eaten anything since ten o'clock this morning, but it is good
that this isn't so important. The main thing is that I am finally with
you", the superstar knew how to wind his audience around the little
finger.
