by dw Chris de Burgh: Late to Beverungen after Live8 Beverungen. The cultural society of Beverungen has enabled a true concert highlight by engaging Chris de Burgh on Saturday night. The world star performed on the festival area at the Weserufer with his program "A summer evening with Chris de Burgh - solo". The patience of the audience of around 3000 - which mainly belonged to the older generation - had been taxed at first, since the Chris de Burgh's performance at the Live8 concert in Berlin was delayed and he only arrived in Beverungen one and a half hour late. But nobody was made about the performance in Berlin. And Chris de Burgh compensated by a perfect solo concert that even won more fascination by the later start and the better light effects in the darkness. Chris de BUrgh presented 29 songs in a show of about 2 hours, a mix of new and old songs. He only had a piano and his 12 string guitar at hands. During the first part of the concert he plyed songs of his last album "The Road To Freedom". He told a story before almost every song, about its inspiration or the meaning or what made him write just this song. And he didn't forget to dwell on Beverungen. With a wink in his eyes he mentioned that he had been enjoying the countryside on his drive from Kassel-Calden with the police escort. He loves the smell of animals... The female fans, and there were quite some of them, used the breaks between the songs to give their "darling" presents - flowers, chocolate, CDs or even champagne - which he accepted with apparently a lot of joy. One of the highlights in the middle of the concert was certainly the performance of Chris de Burgh in the middle of the fnas. After he first criticized otehr artists who perform lipsyncing with headsets and don't sing a single note themselves, he grabbed a headset himself. "I want to imitate Madonna" - he avoided to be compared to Michael Jackson - grabbed his acoustic car and mixed with the enthusiastic audience during a medley of nine songs. Then the part of the concert started that fascinated the audience even more. Performing his ballads "Borderline" and "Say Goodbye To It All" emotionally at the piano, which made everyone get goosebumps, during "Sailing Away" even the last fans were standing. When the classic "Lady In Red" followed, sparklers were lit. Chris de Burgh inspired his fans to sing along during "Where Peaceful Waters Flow", which they had been doing so all the time anyway. With an incomparable "Don't Pay The Ferryman" the official part ended. Quickly the artist let himself be persuaded to do two encores and started a last musical highlight with "High On Emotion" before he finally said goodbye with "Snows Of New York". Not without mentioning that this day which was so important for him and world started in Berlin in front of 150,000 people and now ended with the best part here in Beverungen. "Thank you Beverungen, hope I'll be back soon again." |
