by Ann Rowell transcription by Dave DoohanArena forgets wet, wet, wet
It may have been a wet and miserable night outside the Nottingham Arena but when Chris de Burgh came on stage the weather was soon forgotten. We all became transfixed by this superb singer who began his performance with Guilty Secret, a track from his new album Timing Is Everything. But among the new he did not forget all the old favourites. To the opening strains of Missing You he was given gifts by some of his admirers and he used them as props to start I've got the Roses, I've got the Wine. Of course, it would not be possible for him to leave out Lady In Red - and it didn't go unnoticed that many of his female fans were wearing red. My own favourite, and, yes, it's creeping up, was the Christmas Melody, A Spaceman Came Travelling. Other golden oldies included Borderline, Don't Pay The Ferryman, Spanish Train and Ship To Shore. The audience could have been bigger, but that didn't stop him giving us well over two and a half hours of magical entertainment. He got the audience up dancing and came back for two encores. This fan has become a bigger fan.
