The first few notes at a concert are often the best and the Chris de Burgh show at the Plymouth Pavillions did not disappoint. You could feel the depth of the synthesiser tones in your rip cage asn jaw as they filled the auditorum at full capacity; and when that burred tenor came over the mike in the opening number, Guilty Secrets, it sounded very cool. When that tenor broked into falsetto for the fist time of the night well, I saw a few hands clutched to hearts. The European tour of Chris,s new album Timing is everything ended in Plymouth after 50 shows across Europe. The performance was polished, the band in good tune and they really gave it their all. espcially Chris, who played a nararthon 2 and half hour set with barely any time off stage and no interval. We were secrety afaid that the man in the flesh might be a bit, wet, considering we're not the hugest fans of rock ballard like in lady in red. But he was lively and humerous and can certainly sing. Songs from Timing is everything, included a Lebanese love song set to a steamy bongo beat, and there were upbeat numbers and old favourites to balance out the doom and gloom (I'm telling you after you've heard about his loves, the soldier leaving for war, divorce form a young childs point of view, optimisum seens unreachable. A good night was had by all.
